ankle procedures
The treatment of ankle conditions or abnormalities begins with the most conservative options, using minimally invasive techniques.
Ankle Arthroscopy
Ankle arthroscopy is a procedure in which a small incision is made in the ankle to allow a mini telescope to visualise the joint. Through a secondary incision, an instrument is introduced to remove inflammation or debris and repair damage.
Ankle Fusion
Ankle fusion (arthrodesis) aims to relieve pain and maintain or improve function for patients with ankle arthritis (a degeneration of the cartilage that covers the ends of the bones that form the ankle joint). Ankle arthrodesis fuses these bones.
Ankle Replacement
Total Ankle Replacement (TAA) improves ankle motion and decreases pain during activity. This treatment is an option for patients with ankle arthritis, but only after more conservative treatment options have been explored.
Tib/Fib Instability
Surgery for a syndesmosis injury is designed to reduce the separation between the tibia and fibula.
