archilles tendon rupture
What causes an Achilles Tendon to Rupture?
Most often, ruptures are due to a combination of age-related (attrition) factors and injury or trauma. They may be either partial or complete.
What are the Symptoms?
The pain of an acute rupture is often described as an intense burning sensation or sharp stabbing pain. Patients may hear an audible pop and usually describe a feeling of being kicked, hit, or shot in the heel. In the case of a complete tear, most patients will experience significant ankle weakness. However, some individuals will be able to continue to flex their ankle (sometimes resulting in a missed diagnosis).
